Position Title: Evening School GED / ISAEP Instructor
Pay Grade: Hourly Period of Employment: 10 months
Description Approved/ Revised: 6/2023 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Principal and Evening School Coordinator
General Responsibilities: Aid identified students, ages sixteen to twenty-two, consistent with his or her abilities and educational needs, to complete the requirements for the ISAEP/GED program culminating with the successful completion of the GED examination.
Essential Duties:

- Provides programmatic consultations, including enrollment procedures if appropriate.
- Engages in curriculum development, evaluation of students’ progress, and accurate maintenance of all students’ records.
- Provides classroom instruction in one or more of the following areas: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.
- Develops an individualized course of study for each ISAEP/GED student, based on the areas in which the student needs instruction or remediation.
- Evaluates and tracks students’ academic progress regularly, using standardized assessment tools.
- Utilizes interactive classroom instruction and incorporates a variety of teaching techniques, materials, and resources to ensure students’ success on the GED exam.
- Maintains current records on all students, including accurate attendance records, GED applications, TABE and OPT answer sheets, and any court reports.
- Organizes and maintains class areas, including equipment and materials.
- Displays a positive attitude with all students and staff; acts as a supportive team member in a collaborative environment.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

- Demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field or in the field of teaching, as well as the improvement of the profession.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Serve as a role model.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Department of Education Teaching License.
- Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.
- GED teaching experience preferred.
- Competency in the subject(s) included on the GED examination.
- Experience in computer technology preferred or desirable and/or willing to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position.
- Fluency with Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
