Position Title: GEAR-UP Tutor
Pay Grade: Hourly
($20.00 or Licensed Teachers $43.75)

Supervised by and/or Reports to: GEAR UP Site Coordinator
General Responsibilities: Provide supplemental instructional tutoring services to assigned students individually and/or in study groups.
Essential Duties:

- Facilitates the group tutorial and inquiry learning process and directly assists students in the core subject areas such as mathematics, science, social studies and English.
- Collaborates with assigned teachers on areas of focus to assist student learning
- Coordinates with the GEAR UP team on tutoring opportunities for students
- Implements the goals and objectives of tutorials
- Works collaboratively with groups of students to effectively facilitate tutorial groups.
- Monitors the tutorial work of assigned groups of students to ensure their effective participation and growth.
- Facilitates weekly student notebook checks.
- Assists students in various subject areas, by being familiar with students’ textbooks and materials and classroom resources.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess an educational philosophy that supports access to a rigorous curriculum for any student with the desire and willingness to work hard.
- Knowledge of basic subjects taught including pre-algebra, algebra, grammar, spelling, language, critical reading, and writing process.
- Possess personal attributes of integrity and respect for others as well as ability to work effectively in collaborative teams and serve as a mentor for high school students.
- Possess effective organizational skills
- Implements goals, leads tutorial groups, manages multiple tasks, and meet
deadlines. Requisite Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- High school graduate enrolled in a college/university or a college graduate.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
