Position Title: Cosmetology Teacher

 

Pay Grade:  Per Instructional Salary Schedule      Period of Employment:  10

 

Description Approved/ Revised:  11/16           FLSA Status:  Exempt

 

Supervised by and/or Reports to:  Building Administrator

 

General Responsibilities: Provides instruction that utilizes a variety of teaching methods for courses related to cosmetology to students in grades 9-12. Provides related instruction with field, laboratory, cooperative work or other occupational experiences that is appropriate to the career objectives.  Supervises cosmetology students with all related activities including SkillsUSA.

  • Maintains professional self-behavior in such a manner that the profession, school district, and school are positively represented.
  • Prepares students for course related credentialing and licensing exams.
  • Provides care and supervision of students.
  • Prepares students for CTSO related competitions and activities.
  • Utilizes class space to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Observes and evaluates student’s performance and development; maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Connects the practical and theoretical knowledge for student success.
  • Works effectively with CLT team, peer leaders, supervisors, and administrators.
  • Utilizes effective classroom management skills.
  • Provides for sound and effective techniques of instructions.
  • Implements relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Responds to parent inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Performs duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.
  • Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Attends all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal or Assistant Principal.
  • Serves as a role model.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Administrative Team

 

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field or in the field of teaching, as well as the improvement of the profession.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of and interaction with community and parents.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with policies, regulations, and guidelines in meeting assigned duties
  • Knowledge and use of curriculum content (subject matter and skills) associated with the instructional assignment.
  • Stays current in knowledge and use of instructional facilities, equipment, and materials.
  • Possession of interpersonal skills to build effective, respectful professional relationships with peers, specialists, students, and the school community.

Requisite Education and Experience:

 

  • Must be a current licensed Cosmetologist in Virginia.
  • Must be in possession of or eligible for a Virginia Department of Education Teaching License with an endorsement in Cosmetology.
  • Minimum five years of cosmetology operations and/or other industry-related work experience.
  • Experience in computer technology preferred or desirable and/or willing to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position.
  • Knowledge of cosmetology curriculum, effective instructional techniques, instructional materials and equipment.
  • Experience connecting students to work-based learning opportunities within and outside of the school program.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.  Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
